Repair services and managing all company activities under one single roof.

Shackman

... is a famous brand for electrostatic engineering from the late 40th until today.

Alex Shackman was a pioneer in the development of the curved panel design.

Who we are and where we come from

You are on the intro page of "Doc" Reiner E. Römer (->Latin:: romanus),. Yes, the man from Aachen/Duisburg, for those who were searching for Reiner Römer and "R.A.E." "Römer Audio Equipment".

Now, what's that all about......R.A.E, reromanus, Shackman and Reiner E. Römer? And what is the main concern of Doc Römer nowadays?

I came together with Alex Shackman by having the fantastic Podszus-Görlich as bass driver for our bass-horns, e.g. Römer-ESL-Horn, not finding any adequate tweeter to be capable of fitting our requests. Then we discovered the Shackman tweeters.

Our former distribution brands

So R.A.E. GmbH became the distributor for Shackman products in continental Europe.

In the following years we developed new Shackman models with other diaphragm material a stator technique.

Also we introduced other driving methods, OTL-tube and OTL-transistor amplifiers, rather than step-up transformers.

Further more we introduced a modern driving technology to the Shackman product range, by applying invertedly the polarisation voltage to the stators. It was a logical step to locate the Shackman company and production to Germany .

R.A.E. Römer Audio Engineering

R.A.E. is well reputable Europe wide for a couple of awesome loudspeaker DIY kits, including bass horn, "Karlson Coupler" , Transmission Line and "Tuned Pipe"

The greatest reputation has been given to the R.A.E: loudspeaker kits with Podsus-Görlich drivers, Focal and Shackman tweeters.

Since some decades, R.A.E. develops and produces OTL amplifiers and High Voltage power supplies (EHT).

R.A.E. was the owner of several well known trade marks and obtained distribution rights for Germany and Europe of a couple of well known audio brands, including Harbeth, Dalesford, Radford, Shackman and Pritex.

Other activities include publishing of audio literature.

Shackman

Alex Shackman, former audio engineer at the BBC and in the army, worked together with Peter Walker of "Quad" on the development of a modern electrostatic loudspeaker.

Original Alex Shackman MHT tweeter, built from the late 40s until today without interruption

His idea of building an ESL panel with a curved shape was a revolution in audio history, still commonly present on the actual audio market from several brands, amongst others mainly "Martin-Logan" and Bowers & Wilkins, the famous DM70.

Modern Shackman ESLAB tweeter, inverted version

Since more than a decade, there has been introduced a new technology to the Shackman panels line...., the "invertedly" driven tweeter.

Modern Shackman WR85, wide range version of the classic MHT85

Right now, the development of a sealed "gas-filled" tweeter is close to be finished.

reromanus

The company is specialized on repairing and upgrading all brands of planar loudspeakers of any kind, electrostatics and magnetically driven planars.

Furthermore reromanus is the holder of all registered trademarks, copyrights and patents of Reiner E. Römer. The main activity is distributing the R.A.E. directly driven OTL amplifiers for electrostatic loudspeakers, the high technology modern high voltage power supplies of R.A.E. and the old and new Shackman product series.

(reromanus, lat.: romanus = Römer, re = first and middle name of Mr. R.E. Römer)

There is also an Editing Company "Römer-Verlag" , where special audio literature is distributed and own literature is edited and published.

The latest innovation of reromanus is the modern version of the Quad ESL 57 panels. The spacers are not glued to the stators, but the material is directly milled off from the material, leaving the panel and stator as one single compact unit.

By far the most revolutionary project is the building of a "Double Quad ESL63". This is ultimate upgrading possible with standard Q63s.
